Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit

Assessment must confirm the ability to carry out all weapon drills as listed in the Range Statement on a live anti-personnel weapon.

Consistency in performance

Competency should be demonstrated on a live firing range.

While it is preferable for an anti-personnel weapon operator to fire a live weapon this is not always possible because of the cost and inherent high-risk associated with the firing. As a minimum the anti-personnel weapon operator must observe a live fire operation.

Competency should be assessed using live ammunition on a live firing range.

Note: In Defence the assessment and training are conducted in accordance with the current weapons pamphlet. This would include 'dry' assessment to ensure that a safe environment is maintained.
